Hands up if you love (energy) balls! *Insert judging look at everyone who raised their hands.*
We could try and loosely tie these into the Olympics...but really they're just damn tasty balls of goodness that'll give you a pre-workout boost or post-workout pick-me-up. We've made them using Nutristrength protein, and you'll find three of their sachets in The Hector Box – pea protein, whey protein, and their award-winning sheep and goat protein (which is a great alternative for people allergic to cow's milk!). It's got a great amino acid profile and tastes delicious (so you should totally buy a Hector box...just sayin').
We made two types. Cinnamon Vanilla and Cacao Pecan.
You'll need...
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 sachet Nutristrength vanilla protein (we used pea protein)
- 3/4 cup oats
- 1/3 cup nut butter (the runnier the better – we used Pip & Nut cashew butter)
- 1/2 cup almond meal (we ground whole almonds in the Vitamix...simple)
- 1/4 cup honey
Then...
If you're using whole almonds, chuck them into a blender and blitz them into almond meal (magic, right?) then add the oats and blitz them too. Next, pop them into a bowl and mix everything together – you might need to add a few drops of water. Roll into balls, and pop in the fridge.
You'll need...
- 20 medjool dates
- two cups of raw pecans
- one sachet of Nutristrength protein
- one tbsp raw cacao powder
Then...
Pop the pecans into a blender and blitz. Then pit the dates and chuck them in too (tip: if they're fairly hard put them in a bowl of boiling water for five minutes, then drain the water), add the protein and cacao powders and blitz. You might need to add a drop or two of water. Next, roll into balls, and then roll in cacao powder or shredded coconut (or you could show us up and roll them in something fancier).
Lastly...feel super smug, eat them all, then question why you don't have more self control. Just us?
